Session #
AI and Data Science
Offload the Plan, Keep the Friction
Most of us need two things we rarely get together: room to experiment with what AI actually does for our understanding of a problem, and time to reflect on what we're seeing. I finished Virginia's Trail Quest as a Master Hiker in 2024, a hike in every state park. This fall, I start the bigger version: every trail in every park, with a longer timeline and an unknown completion date. I'll share how I'm addressing this challenge differently: what I hand over to an AI tool, what I refuse to, and how to decide which is which. Experimentation shrinks uncertainty and helps us see where our product work can benefit from new tools and ways of thinking.
Allison Herbert
Senior Product Manager
CivicPlus
Allison Herbert is a product leader with over eight years of experience in digital products and strategy, including five years leading product teams and building customer experiences that work in real-world situations. She guides cross-functional teams through changing priorities, competing goals, and the coordination needed to turn good ideas into successful products.
As a speaker, she brings that experience directly to the audience: practical, candid, and grounded in what she's done, not just what she believes in theory. Her talks give product managers, design professionals, and emerging leaders a clear-eyed look at what collaboration and change actually require: the decisions, the tradeoffs, and the parts of the work that rarely make it into a case study.
