Proven Methods for Accelerating Product Development
This presentation is focused on increasing speed to market for new products through the reduction of waste in the NPD process, improving the effectiveness of project teams by focusing on how work is done, and improving cross functional alignment on priorities & resource allocation practices. This overview will cover: What is Lean Product Development (A Three Layer Mental Model), Why consider Lean Product Development, Speed Improvements at the three layers of work: 1) The Pipeline Layer: (Improved project evaluation methods, Project prioritization & Improved recurring resource allocation practices, and the importance of “Work Rules” to increase value added time and speed) 2) The Practice Layer: (Use of effective Visual Management tools to improve project team effectiveness and project transparency, the value of Facilitated Events to drive project improvements) and 3) The Process Layer: (Scope Management considerations for speed improvements, and ways to identify and eliminate waste and bottlenecks in the NPD process)

Steve has led Lean Office Transformation efforts, and has had regional & global leadership responsibilities in Program Management, Product Management, and Strategic Marketing. Steve is the current President of the MN Chapter of the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA), and leads a consulting practice focused on improving Product Development results for manufacturers using Lean methods.
